Cherry Blossom’s Haibun

dVerse Poets is our host for Haibun Monday 3/25/24: first [cherry] blossoms (hatsuĀ hana) and you can join inĀ here

************************

In the quiet dawn, the garden whispers of renewal. A gentle breeze carries the promise of spring, weaving through the awakening trees with a tender touch. It is a time of contemplation, of witnessing the world rebirth from the slumber of winter. The first cherry blossoms, hatsu hana, are more than a sign of the changing seasons; they are a symbol of fleeting beauty, of the ephemeral nature of existence itself. As I walk through the garden, each step is a meditation, my thoughts drifting like petals in the wind.

Underneath the ancient cherry tree, its branches heavy with the weight of coming blooms, I find solace in the solitude. The air is filled with a subtle fragrance, a precursor to the explosion of pink and white that will soon adorn the tree. This moment of anticipation, of knowing what will come yet marveling at the slow reveal, mirrors the cycles of our own lives. How often do we rush through, yearning for the blossom, and forget to cherish the growth that leads us there?

The first petal falls, a whisper against the old, gnarled rootsā€”a silent herald of the cascade to follow. In this singular motion, a connection to the past and future, a reminder of the joy and sorrow intertwined in the fabric of life.

cherry blossoms bloomā€”
even the stones seem to breathe,
springā€™s first whisper heard.
