prompt 2413
Our host for today’s post is from Daily Post‘s Prompt 2413 and we are asked to write a dialogue for the following: Your neighbor from upstairs in the apartment building appears at your door one night around 10. He’s visibly drunk and is offering you an opened but full-looking beer. Write the dialogue.

It was a quiet night, the kind where the only sound you can hear is the distant bark of a dog or the occasional car passing by. That is until there’s a knock at the door. It’s 10 PM, and who could it be but the neighbor from upstairs, a character always full of surprises.
Here’s how the dialogue might unfold:
You: (Opening the door) “Hey, what brings you here at this hour? And with a beer, no less!”
Neighbor: (Slurring slightly) “Heyyy, I just thought… you know, we could have a little party! You and me, me and you, us… together.”
You: “A party? At 10 PM on a Tuesday? You do know that’s when all the wild parties happen, right? In the living room of my one-bedroom apartment?”
Neighbor: “Exactly! It’s the perfect place! And look, I brought the essentials.” (Holds up the opened beer)
You: “Ah, yes, the mark of true sophistication. An opened, but mysteriously full beer. What will the historians say?”
Neighbor: “They’ll say… they’ll say we knew how to live! Come on, what do you say?”
You: “Well, I was planning on catching up on some reading, but how can I pass up such a generous offer?”
Neighbor: “That’s the spirit! Here, take it!” (Attempts to hand over the beer but fumbles it)
You: (Catching the beer) “Got it! You know, they say the best beers are the ones shared… or almost dropped.”
Neighbor: “That’s what I always say! Well, I don’t always say it. But I said it now.”
You: “You’re a true philosopher. Alright, let’s have a toast. To unexpected visits and the mysteries of a full-looking beer.”
Neighbor: “To us!”
And so, the night goes on, filled with laughter and the clinking of glasses. Who knew that a simple, albeit slightly odd, offer of a beer could turn into a small but memorable moment between neighbors? Sometimes, it’s the little things that make life interesting, and a surprise visit from the neighbor upstairs is certainly one of them. Cheers to the midnight beer offer, a tale to tell for days to come.
