Writer’s Workshop 03/21/24

In response to Writer’s Workshop Prompts For March 21, 2024

Opposite Day Isn’t it funny how the word “opposite” immediately makes me think of that one day in school where everything you said meant the reverse? It was the perfect excuse to be a little rebellious. “Do your homework,” they’d say, and we’d proudly not do it, because, hey, it’s Opposite Day! But as adults, imagine if we had an Opposite Day. I’d go to work in pajamas, eat dessert for breakfast, and maybe even be nice to that one neighbor who never says hi. It’s like living in a parallel universe for a day where everything you know is flipped—sounds like a refreshing twist, doesn’t it?

Ten Sentences of Truth Life’s too short for bad coffee. The best ideas often come in the shower. Puppies are a universal language of joy. Sunsets are proof that endings can be beautiful. A good book is a portal to another world. Laughter really is the best medicine. Sometimes, the heart sees what’s invisible to the eye. Music can heal wounds that medicine cannot touch. The most memorable adventures often start with a wrong turn. And finally, kindness is free, sprinkle that stuff everywhere.

The Calorie-Free Fantasy Oh, the dream of eating without consequences! If such a magical pill existed, I’d be all over it. Imagine the freedom to indulge in every cheesy, gooey, and decadently sweet treat without a single calorie! I’d probably start my day with a mountain of pancakes, swim in a sea of mac and cheese for lunch, and end with a chocolate cake as tall as my ambitions. But then again, would food still taste as sweet if it didn’t feel like a guilty pleasure?

Weird Eats and Neon Seats The weirdest restaurant I’ve ever eaten in was this tiny place that was half laundromat, half taco stand. You could literally munch on a taco while waiting for your socks to dry. The chairs were neon green, and the walls were covered in vintage arcade games. It was bizarre, but those were some of the best tacos I’ve ever had—go figure!

Networking: A Necessary Dance Networking is like that awkward dance at parties where you’re not sure of the steps, but you do it anyway because that’s where the fun is. It’s all about making connections, sharing stories, and sometimes, finding opportunities in the most unexpected conversations. Sure, it can be intimidating, but it’s also pretty exciting to meet people who share your passions—or can introduce you to new ones.

First Flight Fiasco My first airplane trip was a mix of excitement and sheer terror. I was convinced the plane was held together by duct tape and hope. The moment we took off, I was gripping the armrests, expecting to leave Earth’s orbit. But then, I saw the clouds up close, and it was like being in a different world. By the time we landed, I was already planning my next flight—addicted to the sky!

There you have it—a little bit of humor, a dash of introspection, and a whole lot of relatability. Hope this sparks some creativity for your own workshop!
