April’s Embrace: A Springtime Serenade

Our host today for W3 Poetry Prompt, which goes live on Wednesdays is The Skeptic’s Kaddish. You may click here for a fuller explanation of W3. Last week’s POW (Poet of the Week) who wrote ‘Who Am I & What is My Purpose’, a poem by Heather (Sgeoil) asks us to create a poem about the month of April. She asks that we consider, “What comes to mind when you think of the month of April?” Draw from your memories, your five senses, activities you associate with the month… go wherever this prompt takes you! Future Guideline for next week: Using Specific Words: Include at least three of the following words that evoke sensory experiences: whisper, burst, clasp, patter, verdant.

April winks in blooms and showers,
Teasing summer with her powers.
Petrichor and budding flowers,
Life in motion, growth empowers.

She’s the laughter in the rain,
Patter on the window pane,
Soft green shoots in brown terrain,
Promise that the sun will reign.

A symphony of colors burst,
Cerulean skies for cloudless thirst,
April’s canvas, nature’s versed,
In this month, spring is immersed.

She dances in the cherry blooms,
Whispers through the freshened rooms,
Where sunlight in the morning looms,
And daffodils in brightness grooms.

April’s breath on skin is mild,
Earth’s rebirth, tender and wild,
Nature’s cradle rocks her child,
In verdant arms, serene and styled.

Picnics ‘neath the canopy’s spread,
Children laughing, Easter’s thread,
Soft pastels in pinks and red,
Chocolates, bonnets on each head.

April’s tears, a cleansing tide,
Washing winter’s grit aside,
Caterpillars soon to glide
As butterflies, in springtime pride.

She is youth in time’s grand spiral,
An annual and sweet revival,
With every scent and sight a viral
Joy, an ode to life’s arrival.

In April’s fleeting, gentle grasp,
We find a moment to inhale and gasp,
For she’s the gateway, with a clasp,
To summer’s golden, glowing clasp.

  1. Celeste, wow, this is so very lovely. It’s not easy to make stanzas with monorhyme flow so naturally, but you did it! Well done 😀

    Much love,
    David
